Ocala’s Story Through a Local Lens
The College of Central Florida’s Webber Gallery is proud to present the opening reception for “There’s Nothin’ to Do in Slowcala!?”, a solo exhibition featuring the work of Ocala photographer Tommy Cuevas, on view from October 27 through December 11, 2025.
Once known by the tongue-in-cheek nickname “Slowcala,” Ocala has often carried the reputation of being a sleepy town with little to do. Cuevas’ photography flips that perception on its head. His images capture the everyday hidden beauty of a community alive with activity - whether through the camaraderie of friends sharing a night out, the dedication of an artist or musician realizing a vision, or the excitement of world-class equestrian events- Cuevas’ work shines a spotlight on the people who bring Ocala to life, making it clear that this is a city brimming with connection, creativity, and story
A friendly and familiar presence in Ocala, Tommy is rarely seen without his camera. Over the years, he has become known for his ability to turn ordinary happenings into extraordinary visual stories. His photos don’t just chronicle events — they reveal the personality, resilience, and energy of a community that continues to grow and evolve.
“There’s nothin’ to do in Slowcala” will be on view from Oct. 27 – Dec. 11, 2025 with an opening reception on Thursday, Oct. 30 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. where light refreshments will be served with admission free and open to the public.
