With a heartfelt apology, The Ocala Juneteenth Celebration has to inform you of the cancellation of the Ocala Juneteenth Celebration for 2023. The expected weather conditions for tomorrow include thunderstorms and winds that are at 10mph and higher. Those conditions would not make it safe for us to move forward with the celebration.
The Ocala Juneteenth Celebration Commission and The City of Ocala have exhausted all other options for a Rain Plan. Due to the size of our event and unavailable venues, we will have to postpone until 2024. We must ensure the safety of our community patrons, community partners, participating organizations, field vendors, and food trucks. Details about the location and/or venue for 2024, will be sent out in advance.
Please join the Ocala Juneteenth Commission as we celebrate the emancipation of enslaved people in the US. The holiday was first celebrated in Texas, where on that date in 1865, in the aftermath of the Civil War, slaves were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation. There will be food, entertainment, networking of vendors and much much more!
