Designed to capture the look of the former historic railroad bridges that were built here in the late 1800s.
The 2.4-mile-long paved Dunnellon multi-use trail is sited primarily along a historic railroad bed that runs along the Rainbow River south of CR 484 and the Blue Run Park and tubers take out. Trailheads are located along Bridges Road on the Marion County (north) side of the Withlacoochee River and CR 39 just east of U.S. 41 on the Citrus County (south) side of the paved trail.
The focal point is the beautiful views from the Withlacoochee River trail bridge, which connects the two counties together via the trail.
Wading birds, alligators and other wildlife are frequently seen along the trail while people walk, jog, inline skate or bicycle to enjoy the scenery and imagine what the railroad was like on this same ground more than a century ago.
