Benjamin Louis VanDuuren Park

In August 2004, Mrs. Satloo Van Duuren donated 12.57 acres in northwestern Marion County as a passive park in memory of her late husband, Dr. Benjamin Louis Van Duuren.

Dr.Van Duuren was a world-class expert in the field of cancer causation & prevention using chemical & analytical techniques. He published 299 manuscripts recording the findings from his laboratory & served on numerous committees such as National Institute of Health study sections, Lung Cancer Task Force, & International Agency for Research on Cancer Monograph Committee.

The couple purchased the 12.57 acres in Marion County due to its central location, the hospitality of our residents, rural charm & rich natural history.

Mrs. Van Duuren requested that park improvements include a nature trail for children to learn about & appreciate nature & that the property remain a park forever.
