Head Start/Early Head Start are federally funded programs serving children aged birth – five who are not enrolled in kindergarten and pregnant women. Due to federal funding and required program dollar donations the program is offered to families at no cost. Any parent may register their child for the Head Start program. Children are placed into the Head Start program based on their need for an early educational experience and support services for their family. Head Start program services include services for the child enrolled in the program and the family of the child. Child services include early childhood education; two USDA approved meals on a daily; a dental examination; hearing, vision, developmental and speech screenings; play therapy for children including occupational, physical and speech; family counseling; nutritional counseling; and educational training opportunities for parents.
