Electromagnetism Mural

Michael Faraday was an English scientist whose many experiments contributed greatly to the understanding of electromagnetism. He is depicted here conducting an experiment wherein there is an electrical wire running through a table with four compasses mounted around the wire. As electric current is run through the wire it makes the needles on the compasses move, showing the effects of an invisible magnetic energy force connected to the electric current. It was during this experiment he had an epiphany about the connection between electricity and magnetism. The geometric pattern in the top right is intended to represent the electromagnetic field being emitted from the charged electrical wire. The more abstract design of lines, cubes and spheres on the shorter Northern most walls is intended to be a stylized representation of the wires, nodes and plants that modern power grids are comprised of.
