The Dunnellon High School Power Generation Academy with the goal of preparing students for the thousands of high skilled, high demand jobs available in the power and energy industry. The program will assist in preparing students for job opportunities as plant operators, electricians, instrument & controls technicians and maintenance mechanics.
Program completion will result in NCCER certification in Power Generation Maintenance and Industrial Maintenance Technician. Students be introduced to power industry careers and will practice taking Construction and Skilled Trade Tests, and Physical Abilities Tests required to be employed in the power industry.
Students interested in obtaining a post secondary degree in Science, Engineering or Technology will receive foundational preparation to advance in their chosen area of specialty. Through articulation with local community colleges, college credit may be awarded for high school course work taken by those students who successfully complete our program. In addition, students interested in four-year degrees in engineering will take upper level course work in math and science while gaining valuable industry training. This will give them a competitive edge as they seek acceptance to prestigious four year universities.
The purpose of the Power Generation Academy is to provide students with experiences that will give them a solid foundation in skills necessary in the power generation and energy industry. In addition to the courses necessary to meet all state graduation requirements, the program will include course work that stresses an understanding of safety, power
technologies, hand and power tools, rigging, industrial maintenance, computer skills, communication skills and employability skills.
